2-Piece C Buckle Paralleler Plastic Faltrad Spare Parts for Brompton Hinge clamp Sping Replacement
$ 4.67
I got my hinge clamp spring in the jaunty red color. Two pairs, for his ‘n’ hers Brompton CHPT3 v4’s. I was tempted to replace the clamps altogether, but the ones on our CHPT3’s are upgraded aluminum clamps and levers, so I decided just to add this hinge clamp spring.This spring solves 2 problems the regular hinge clamp has:1. Once you loosen the stock Brompton hinge clamp, it free spins out of alignment. So when you want to close the hinge, you have to realign it before you can tighten it;2. Sometimes the clamp sticks to the frame as you loosen the screw, making you keep unscrewing like a fool, often a lot more than you have to. And if you’re not paying attention, the whole assembly can fall out.Now with this hinge clamp spring, the clamp stays aligned vertically in whatever state of looseness, and also lifts away from the frame as you loosen, so as soon as you’ve loosened it sufficiently, you know immediately. And now, when I want to clamp the hinges, it’s immediately ready to tighten, with no need to futz with it to get it oriented before you can start tightening.Plus the jaunty red color matches our CHPT3’s perfectly, and only cost $XX per pair (you need 1 pair per bike).ONE NEGATIVE: this is not the original as designed by “EZ Clamp”.IMPROVEMENTS over the original:1. Injection molded for what I assume is greater strength and durability. Time will tell.2. Includes metal spring for added longevity. When the plastic part breaks from constant flexing, the spring will keep springing, so at least one function of the clamp spring will keep going (pushing the clamp off the frame).3. Prime shipping. ‘Nuff said.Overall I’m over the moon with this. It’s my very first upgrade, and I’m sure it will be one of my most satisfying even as I add more mods. Again, time will tell!
