Rated PowerDefinition: The power level at which the laser tube is designed to operate continuously and efficiently over its intended lifespan.Purpose: Indicates the optimal operational power for long-term use, ensuring:Minimal wear and tear on the tube.Stable performance with consistent beam quality.Extended service life.Example: A tube rated at 100W can operate at 100W continuously without significantly affecting its lifespan.2. Maximum PowerDefinition: The highest power output the laser tube can achieve, typically for short bursts or intermittent use.Purpose: Indicates the upper performance limit for temporary high-power demands, such as:Cutting thicker materials.Completing projects requiring maximum power for short periods.Impact:Operating near or at maximum power can lead to increased wear, reduced lifespan, and potential overheating.Beam quality may degrade if used continuously at maximum power. Why Both Metrics?Operational Flexibility: Users can choose between operating at rated power for efficiency or using maximum power for challenging tasks.Protection Against Overuse: Manufacturers provide these ratings to help users avoid overdriving the tube, which can damage its internal components.Practical Design: CO₂ laser tubes are engineered to handle occasional peaks in demand, but sustained use at maximum power compromises the vacuum stability, gas mixture, and electrode durability.Best PracticesOperate the laser at rated power for routine tasks to maximise tube lifespan.Never exceed the maximum working current, there will be little power improvement and it will shorten the life of your tube.Keep to the Recommended Current for your tube and maximise the life of the tube. Ideally set up your laser system so that the power settings are limited to the recommended current so other users cannot accidently overdrive the tube.Use maximum power sparingly and only when necessary to achieve specific results. This dual-rating system ensures a balance between performance and durability, catering to a wide range of applications.Download SPT’s User Instruction Manual for their CO2 Laser Tubes here. Operating Conditions1) Water cooling The cooling liquid is pure water (distilled) with standard water temperature from 15℃ to 30℃. And the flow rate is 2-7 litres per minute.2) Working environment Application environment: temperature from 2℃ to 40℃, humidity from 10% to 60%.3) Operating current The max operating current must be controlled at 25mA or less. And the long-term operating current must be controlled at the recommended Current (mA) in the table above. The above currents should be in accordance with the actual currents displayed on the ammeter, which is in series connection with the cathode. If the laser tubes are used incorrectly for long-term, over-current use, the colour of the negative electrode will change, and the service life can be significantly reduced. It is advised to keep the HV Protective jacket around the high voltage Anode of your SPT Laser Tube to prevent dust from entering the vicinity of the terminal . Cleaning Tips: Please do not use cotton swabs or other wipes to scrub the window (laser beam exit point) on these SPT CO2 laser tubes. Doing so may affect the output power. The specified cleaning method for the windows is as follows: 1. When the lens is stained, turn off the laser tube. 2. Use an air dust blower to blow away dust and dirt on the window. 3. Use a syringe to spray ethanol on the lens. Do not use too much ethanol as it may react with the glass sealing compound. 4. After the ethanol completely evaporates, turn the laser tube back on. 5. If the above methods do not work effectively, professional assistance may be required. As always, prevention is better than cure, so try to reduce the airborne contamination around the tube through effective fume extraction strategies.Special Notice1. Do not use acetone to clean the glass on your CO2 Laser Tube. 2. When testing the laser beam on Acrylic, please keep the Acrylic at least 300mm from the window.Safety: As the CO2 glass laser device generates invisible light at 10,600nm wavelength, please wear eye protection gear when operating. A safety sign for high voltage is marked on the positive pole.Storage and Transportation Requirements: When storing and transporting the SPT CO2 Laser tube, please drain the cooling liquid and cover the tube ends with dustproof plastic bags. For storage, the required environmental temperature is 2-40℃ and the humidity ranges from 10-60%.Adhesive tapes and sponges should be used to fix the laser tubes and prevent sliding during transport. A 70mm sponge should be use at the end of the windows, and a 50mm sponge should be at the end of the fully reflecting mirror.
